J/37 Shallow Draft

This is not your average J/Boat. Not only does it have the performance of the Johnstone designed boats, but it has not suffered the life of a racing thoroughbred. The current owner has cared for the boat responsibly and added equipment where needed for short handed/single handed cruising comfort. The biggest safety addition is a Jack Line from bow to stern system. Hook you tether on it and you can go from bow to stern without having to "switch-off" to another tether or jack line. This was a system he used all the time. The genoa tracks and leads to the primary winches as normal to the middle of the cockpit area, but the main traveler and dual winch system is just forward of the helm allowing the helmsman to make major or minor adjustments to tweak the main at any time within easy reach. The Garmin GPS map xs mounts on the binnacle over the compass at the helm station. The autopilot controls are on the starboard side of the cockpit and engine controls are on port. (A course tracker gauge is mounted on the combing on the starboard side just forward of the helm station Does NOT work). The aft starboard locker contains the dual propane tanks for easy access and venting. Under the center cushion is the Rudder Post and the emergency tiller attaches there if you need it. On the aft rail is a man overboard system and swim ladder and grill. The radar (not working) tower and Outboard Motor Davit are also mounted on the transom port side. The cockpit locker on the port side is huge with lots of equipment, (refrigeration, starting and house batteries, battery charger, winch handles, spare blocks, emergency pump handle, life jackets, fenders, fire extinguisher, boat hook and more and still a lot of space for more. Under the dodger are 3 sheet stoppers on port and 3 on starboard. On either side is also a port hole for easy communication between the cabin and cockpit or ventilation. Under the traveler 2 30 amp shore power connections.

Moving forward from the cockpit on the starboard side again the Jack line is secured to the stanchion bases in various places along the rail (on both sides) and a roller system easily rolls along the cable without catching. The genoa tracks run from the cockpit area to the base of the side stays and chainplates. The moisture meter shows only slightly elevated readings and the chainplates have been re-bedded. Just forward of the starboard side stays is an anchor locker (which also had leaking problems that were repaired). On the cabin top, the mid Hatch does have a lot of crazing, but appears to be solid. There are turning blocks on either side of the mid-hatch and at the base of the mast. Two Dorade boxes with plastic Cowls, one on either side of the mast send fresh air below and the forward hatch appears to be in great condition. There are surprisingly few stress marks, crazing or gel coat cracks on the deck for a boat of this generation. An aluminum toe rail down both sides and life-line gates on both sides. The dodger and isinglass appear to be in great condition. On the companionway slide garage are 2 strips of teak for mounting an emergency life raft (not available) if you decide you want to have one with you.

Going down the companionway on port is the galley. Next to the companionway steps is the single lever faucet and sink with filtered water spigot. In the corner is the Microwave over the counter top opening to the frig. Counter space, drawers, a locker and cabinets for storage and just forward is a 2 burner propane stove and oven on gimbles. An over head light, handrail. Forward on port is the main cabin area port side couch with a folding table top to extend the galley counter space or work as a table top. Against the outer hull are storage cabinets, reading lights, and 2 large opening port lights. Clean easy access to the chainplate and Genoa track bolts (All showing no signs of leaks or water intrusion). Ships bell. and access to the head. On Centerline on the bulkhead is the cabin heater. On Starboard is access to the forward cabin. In the middle of the ceiling is a mid-cabin hatch allowing natural light and fresh air on pleasant days. The Lamp Oil cabin lantern hangs on centerline over the dining table with wings that fold down to stay out of the way. Stereo speakers are mounted discreetly for entertainment. The head has 2 access doors. From the main cabin and from the forward cabin and is very clean with manual head and sink with pull out shower head. Overhead is a light, a ventilator vent and portlight for natural light and fresh air. A large mirror for personal reflection. Moving into the forward cabin is your typical Vee berth layout with insert. Windscoop for forward hatch. Access to the anchor locker. Shelfs on either side for books or personal items. Reading light on both sides. Battens line the sides and a clean teak and Holly floor add a touch of wood boat flavor. On Starboard is a counter space with mirror and drawers and just aft on starboard is the hanging locker. Natural light and ventilation from the forward hatch and port lights. also the starboard side ventilator inlet helps the boat breathe. Moving back into the main cabin on the Starboard side is the matching couch with cabinets behind stereo speaker, ports, and reading light. All leading aft to the nav station. You can sit on the couch facing aft with Standard Horizon VHF Radio, 12 volt 3 outlet charging station, Electrical panel, MP3 Bluetooth stereo system, StarPower inverter (under the chart table), 110 outlet, Xintex Propane Fume detector, Under the dining table is the Volvo Green Machine so when you pull the table back out of the way, you have excellent access to all the parts and pieces of the engine for easy maintenance and repairs. (Open one of the floorboard to gain access to the dripless stuffing box). In the spacious aft cabin is a hanging locker, reading lights, and a very large double bed mattress. Currently it is loaded with sails, cockpit cushion and other equipment stored for the winter season.
