The 81st Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race starts on Saturday, December 26, 2026 — Boxing Day — in Sydney Harbour, with the fleet heading 628 nautical miles south across Bass Strait to Hobart, Tasmania.
Entries opened in May and closed in late October. The race is also the last round of the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's Blue Water Pointscore series.
The start is one of sailing's great spectacles: thousands of spectator boats and crowds on the headlands watch the fleet beat out of the harbour. From North America, the start falls on the evening of Christmas Day, and the race is tracked and streamed live on the official site.
